Compound angles are sometimes referred to as compound mitres.

Hand tools used to mark out & cut compound mitres include:
  • Tenon Saw or Cross cut saw
  • Sliding bevel

Machines & Power tools used include:
  • Sliding table saw
  • Compund mitre saw
  • Radial Arm Saw

Compound mitres are used in shopfitting to make a display pedestals for racking and other stands like the one shown below

Hoppers shapes are another example of where compound angle are used. In kitchen cupbaord manufacture hopper nagles and compound mitres are often used to make range hood cabinets and crown mouldings.

To make these shapes and cabinets accurately you need to be able to develop the true shape of the sides and mitre angles.
